Cochlear Implant

For almost two decades my right ear has been the good one. In a few weeks, it will be the other way around.

Delayed Endolymphatic Hydrops is my official diagnosis. I became deaf in my left ear 18 years ago, and now the same thing is happening to the right. It’s unclear what triggered it, or why. It’s possible I had Coronavirus last spring, which could have triggered whatever underlying condition caused the hydrops to begin with. I’ll really never know.

Regardless, the new deafness in my right ear has led me down a new path. I’ll be receiving a cochlear implant in my left ear this December. There’s no telling how long it will be before my right ear becomes completely deaf, but we determined it would be better to do it now than wait to find out.

I am nervous about it. Apprehensive. But also really excited. I’ve spent many hours researching and trying to learn as much about the process and options as possible. I decided that with this change, I’m going to turn this website from it’s original idea to a blog chronicling the process. At least for now.
